Welcome to the Farm
Frontier Farm was established in 2018 on a 3,500 square foot garden plot in Carolina, Rhode Island. In 2019, Frontier Farm moved to its new home at the Eleanor F. & Edward W. Barlow Nature Preserve in Westerly, Rhode Island. What started out as a glorified backyard garden has now grown into a 2.5 acre vegetable and herb farm.
Environmental stewardship, soil health, food accessibility, and community are our top priorities. Our vegetables and herbs are grown sustainably without synthetic chemicals or fertilizers, and 100% of our electricity consumption is offset by solar power. We utilize a science-based regenerative approach and no-till methods whenever possible, focusing on soil health as the foundation for plant health.
In collaboration with the land owners, The Westerly Land Trust, Frontier Farm works tirelessly to protect the native flora and fauna of the nature preserve. It is our responsibility to care for the land we benefit from and understand its history.
“We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”
— Aldo Leopold
