Meet the Farmers

    Owner & Manager

Cassidy’s dream of owning and operating a vegetable farm began when she joined the University of Rhode Island’s Agriculture Club in 2013. There, she discovered the wonderful community and endless possibilities that Rhode Island agriculture has to offer. She even met her husband, Jim, in Ag Club! Since then, Cassidy has been farming in one capacity or another for over 9 years. Most of her knowledge base and skills come from her experience working for other farmers. She’s worked in floriculture, organic vegetable production, greenhouse production, professional landscaping, retail and customer service. Additionally, she earned a degree in Wildlife Conservation Biology from the University of Rhode Island in 2015, guiding her to be the best environmental steward she can be.

Cassidy’s vision for Frontier Farm is ever changing, with a few central pillars for its foundation: environmental stewardship, soil health, food accessibility, and community. As the farm grows, she plans to work toward accomplishing some long-term goals. One of which is to establish a portion of the farm devoted to growing crops solely for mutual aid, local food pantries, and/or gleaning networks. Another is to continue hosting and collaborating on youth education programs with the Westerly Land Trust as well as local schools. Regardless of crop yields and financial success, Cassidy hopes Frontier Farm will eventually become a hub for education and community involvement in food policy, social justice and politics, as well as practical workshops related to farming, gardening, and conservation.

    Sales & Special Projects

Jim has been with Frontier Farm from the very beginning. When he’s not working his full-time job off the farm, he can be found sacrificing many of his weekends and after-work hours on the farm. His unwavering support, patience, and willingness to take on any project have been a vital part of Frontier Farm’s success. You might find him working in the fields, manning the farm stand or CSA pick-up, constructing a new farm facility, or planning our next big project, and probably singing all the while. Whatever the need, Jim gets it done with care.

In addition to the time and effort he puts in on odd jobs and special projects, Jim is an invaluable part of caring for our crops. When it comes to making decisions regarding integrated pest management, plant pathology and physiology, and soil health, Jim is always a part of the conversation. In 2014, he graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Environmental Horticulture focusing on Sustainable Agriculture. Over the years, Jim has worked in agronomic research, organic vegetable production, nursery production, commercial cannabis cultivation, landscaping, horticultural lighting, and sales. His knowledge, experience, and skills are essential to creating sustainable farm methods and growing healthy crops at Frontier Farm.
