Workshare Opportunities
2026 CSA now open for sign-ups!
What is a Workshare?
A workshare is when someone volunteers their time and energy to work on the farm in exchange for a CSA share. Folks work under the supervision of the farm manager to complete various farm tasks throughout the growing season. These tasks could include (but are not limited to) seeding in the greenhouse, preparing beds for planting, transplanting seedlings out to the field, weeding, harvesting, and washing produce. Workshare members will witness all the transitions a farm goes through from the beginning to the end of the season. They’ll get to experience first-hand how a farm operates and be an important part of its success.
If you’re interested in farming as a career, a workshare is a great way to get a better idea of what it’s like to work on a farm, or to gain first-time farming experience. Alternatively, maybe you’re retired and enjoy gardening and working on projects as a team. Regardless of your background: if you’re someone who appreciates local agriculture, is interested in learning about our food system, and enjoys working outdoors, a workshare position might be a great option!
What are the expectations?
Like any other job, volunteering for a workshare should be taken seriously. There are a number of things we require in order to have a successful season together:
No farming experience is necessary, but you should be willing to work in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind. We will also occasionally encounter spiders, bees, snakes, and rodents.
You should be able to listen carefully, think critically, and take direction from a woman.
You must be respectful of all others on the farm (including plants and animals). We farm on a nature preserve sharing space with one other farm and the Westerly Land Trust offices.
You should be able to work using your body (crouching, bending, kneeling, lifting, etc.). We do our best to work as ergonomically as possible, but farming is inherently athletic.
Farming isn’t always fun, so you should be able to maintain a positive attitude during difficult tasks and uncomfortable weather. Team work and a good sense of humor goes a long way!
It’s a season-long commitment that runs concurrently with the CSA program.
What’s the schedule?
Workshares will work for 3hrs each week for the duration of the CSA season (mid-June to late September) in exchange for a Medium CSA share.
Available shifts for 2026 are: Mondays 8am-11am or 12pm-3pm, and Saturdays 1pm-4pm.
Committing to the same shift each week is important. This keeps our weekly work flow organized and helps us plan our farm projects.
If you need to miss a shift, let us know as soon as possible so we can adjust the schedule. If you aren’t able to make up the missed shift, you’ll have to forfeit your CSA share for that week.
How do I sign up?
Workshare positions are available on a first come, first served basis (up to 4 positions). If the expectations and schedule requirements work for you, please fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch soon!
All workshare members will receive news and updates via email as we approach the growing season.
